I'm at a crossroads with comparing uncharted with the new tomb raider

Uncharted 2 is, bar none, one of the best games I've ever played, but after playing a lot of the new tomb raider, I realized it wasn't really for the gameplay at all.

Tomb Raider is better on that front in many ways; It's way more in depth, adding a nice upgrade system with an emphasis on unlocking new tools to reach new areas, ala metroid, the gameplay is just as good, employing the best cover system I've ever seen in a video game, the world is much bigger, making trinket hunting more challenging, and even a bit more rewarding. The only thing I'd knock tomb raider on, in the gameplay front, is not being able to pull dudes off ledges. Missed opportunity crystal d.

So with all that said, how is uncharted still on par, if not better? The story and characters are infinitely better, and it's as simple as that. There's more motivation than pure gaminess to want to play uncharted games.

But the release of this new tomb raider makes me wish uncharted was more than just a gears of war clone with indiana jones' skin slapped on. The sameness of the gameplay in 3 was the reason I disliked it so much.

Although, the last of us looks like it employs the great characters and story of a true naughty dog game, while also having some depth to it, which makes me even more excited for it.
